Do’s and Dont’s Washing Your Car

The Do’s

When Washing your car try to do it out of the sun
If that not possible do it early morning or at sun set.
This is avoid water marks and streaks.
Most car washes say on the bottle wash car in the shade out of the sun.
Always rinse car first with either a pressure washer or hose.
Starting with the roof then next bonnet and boot finishing with the sides of the car.
I always clean the wheels and tyres first using a suitable wheel as to wheel type.
If you don’t have a pressure washer use a 2 buckets system.
One for the shampoo and one to Rinse.
Make a filter to Trap the dirt.
Buy a cheap bucket and drill holes in the bottom to make a
saucer with ab out a 20mm – 25 mm lip.
Place it in the wash bucket upside down.
A plastic pot plant saucer will also work.
Always use a clean wash mitt or sponge.
When Shampooing the car start with the roof.
Wash in horizontal or vertical movement.
Wash mitt or sponge when starting the next panel.
When completed rinse with pressure washer or hose.
again start at the roof so you see the shampoo come off in sheets.
Dry you car undercover with a proper microfibre drying cloth.
I like the open weave type by MLH.
Always use the same microfibre cloth for the paint.
This will avoid cross contamination and scratches.
Start at the roof and like the washing method do in either a horizontal or vertical movement.
Don’t forget the wash door opening and sills do this by hand.
If you used a a wash N wax shampoo your job is done.
You can no either use a quick detailer or a good cleaner wax like Mother or Mequires.
This will clean the paint leaving a smooth clean surface protection and shine.
(Its no good putting a finishing polish on your car it it still feels rough when you wipe a microfibre cloth over the surface.
As all you doing would be doing is trapping the dirt in the clear coat.
How often you wash your car its up to you but recommend every 7- 14 days .
Invest in a fleece lined car cover if your car sit there a lot in a Car port or Garage.
This will help as you won’t need to wash it as often.
Also wash imagesa Parrafin Duster Mop is good for removing light dust on your prestige, classic, hot rod or show car!

The Don’ts

Avoid drive through car washes as the damage your car with there over head mops
that trap and hold the dirt then scratch you car.
Most recycle there water and you don’t know how well there filters are maintained.
When washing your car always do it out of the sun if possible or get under cover to dry off.
When washing rinsing and drying the car always use the horizontal or vertical method to avoid scratches and swirl marks.
I would avoid chamois …I know they dry well but also pick dirt up and can scratch your car.
Avoid using dish washing liquid as this will strip the wax off.
If you get a bird dropping or tree wax on your car wash it off ASAP to avoid it wrecking the clear coat
Sometimes can not be removed with out get painted again.
If you don’t have the time to maintain your car or for some other reason can’t do it get a professional mobile car detail to come to you.

How can I remove a paint scuff on my car?

scuff markYour gone to a shopping centre and when you come out you have noticed some nice person has scraped your car leaving there paint on your car!
Another car recently scraped the side of my vehicle, leaving a scuff of paint from there car to yours.
If no indentation or scratch, but the other vehicle left its mark behind in a very difficult-to-remove paint scuff.
The easiest way to check if the scratch is deep, run tip of your fingernail across the scratch, if your nail gets stuck in a scratch , it will not buff out,
But sometimes general public touch up scuff marks that can be wiped off with a little solvent on a towel,it’s funny,I’ve seen it many times.
Get few drops of polish on a soft micro fibre and try to rub the scratch out, if you see it going away, most likely it’s just a scuff,
if it appears to be a little deeper, take it to a professional auto body workshop.
half the time scratches can be sanded down and polished.
Alcohol will not do anything, but make your scratch sterile… try a Nail Polish Remover, it works fine.
Do a feel test to see if it raised and it has not removed your paint.
1.Clean the area that has a scratch or scrape.
Wash the car panel with a car wash. Dry the area thoroughly with a clean micro fibre cloth.
2.Apply car wax or polish. This is the least abrasive measure for taking care of fine scratches. Sometimes it is all that is needed to get rid of a scratch.
3.Apply acetone to the scrape. Auto detailing solution can be used, but acetone products, such as nail polish remover, work just as well. Moisten a clean, white cloth with acetone and wipe it lightly over the scratch. Continue applying the acetone until the scrape or scratch vanishes.
4.Rub in some car rubbing compound. If the scratch does not disappear after applying the acetone, get some car rubbing compound and a buffing pad.
The car rubbing compound can be found at any auto parts or body detailing store.
5. apply a finishing polish or cleaner wax.
If still there.
More than likely, if they show up white, they are deep and they have hit primer. If they are very minor, they can be buffed out, but it will take a little bit of work.
Take it to a Auto body workshop and have them take a look at it.

What is Clay Bar Treatment?

Mothers Clay bar

Maguires clay barDriving down the road or even just sitting in a parking lot, a vehicle is always exposed to extremely small particles of dirt,
overspray that are trapped in the air. Over time these dirt molecules collect on the paint and penetrate the clear coat of your vehicle,
which can not be washed off collect on the paint and penetrate the clear coat of your vehicle, which can not be washed off through regular wash methods.
So once the vehicle has been washed to remove the initial layer of dirt, and then
clay barred to remove the dirt imbedded in the clearcoat, the surface is now as clean as can be and is ready for application of Real Carnauba wax application
for a deep gloss and protection.
Auto Revive Clay Bar Treatment safely removes these contaminants from the paint and leaves your vehicle feeling slick and smooth.
There’s no need to compound to remove overspray, bugs, or tar –Clay Bar Treatment removes it all!
Clay bar Treatment is safer to use than using harsh compounding.
I recommend Clay Bar Treatment if the car paint clear is in good condition but feels a bit rough when you wipe a micro fibre over the surface.
Clay Bar should be done at least every 6 months and it clear coat safe and wont damage the paint.
If your clear coat is badly damaged or flaking not recommended.
Clay bar treatment is time consuming and not really for the novice.
and it may need to be done by a professional detailer.
I Have recommend 3 Clay bar Treatment that work
Mothers Clay Bar Kit *****
Meguires Clay Bar Kit ****
Repco Clay Bar Kit ***

Washing and Caring for Car Paint

wash imagesI get asked often … I have washed my car but the paint feels rough still when i wipe a micro fibre cloth over it.
Washing alone does not remove all dirt that can get embedded to the clear coat.
1. Step is when washing or using a pressure washer Rinse first.
2. Shampoo car but make sure your sponge or mitt does not touch the bottom of the bucket
( that were the dirt is) I use a bucket that been cut with holes making a plate and sits in the bottom.
Lots of scratches can appear after washing.
I don’t recommend using leather or synthetic chamois as they pick up the dirt then scratch the paint
( better of with a proper weave drying cloth or microfibre cloth
3. After washing inspect the paint. ( it no good putting a finish polish if it still feel rough.
4. I would use a 1 step cleaner wax like Mother or Meguires. ( cleans imperfections in the paint and leaves a protective wax.
5. In between washes us instant detailer.
^ If the paint surface has water marks or lot of bug spot imperfections it may require a rubbing compound
or a clay bar treatment followed up with a finishing polish.
